As in previous years, we are happy to promote the cause of Operation Smile China Medical Mission (OSCMM), a non-profit medical charity that provides free surgeries to the underprivileged children with cleft lips and / or palates in China. The charity and their running team have always added a lot of colour to our event. This summer, Tsang Chun Kit leads them.
Founded in Hong Kong in 1991, OSCMM has changed over 26,000 smiles and lives with the generous support of volunteers and donors from all over the world. Through intensive resident training as well as surgical and life-saving training programmes, OSCMM helps building long term capabilities of local medical professionals in China. According to statistics, in China, 1 in 600 children is born with a cleft life and / or cleft palate which can cause difficulties in eating, hearing, speaking, smiling and socialising. In as little as 45 minutes, a surgery can make significant changes of these children’s lives but some families just cannot afford it, especially those in remote, rural areas. Yet each of us can be someone’s reason to smile again!
As a Genghis Khan Festival participant, you can contribute to the cause of OSCMM when you sign up online for the races via a donation, on site during event days or simply via the OSCMM Run for Smile race page, where you can also create your own personal fundraising page .
This year, Hong Kong triathlete star Tsang Chun Kit, also known as Ying Ying, will act as ambassador for Operation Smile China Medical Mission. He will come to the Genghis Khan Festival leading the charity team, and will himself take part in the King of the Grasslands competition. Ying is a very popular and sympathetic athlete and we are very proud that he will be taking part in our event! If you wish to join him and his OSCMM team, please donate or raise funds via their special webpage!
